Monsters Among Us – Freak Show Episode 1 – American Horror Story Fan Podcast

Monsters Among Us is the title of the first episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show. The show treats its viewers to all kinds of oddities: a woman with two heads, the bearded lady, the tattooed seal boy, the lobster boy and Elsa Mars, cabaret star. Just don’t call them Freaks! This season starts off with a slow build paying close attention to Else, Dott and Bette and Jimmy Darling while introducing only a handful of the remaining cast. And then there’s Twisty the Clown, quite possibly the most disturbing visual since Pennywise the clown from Stephen King’s It.

There are some elements I’m waiting to see if they pan out. However, overall, I’m pretty happy. By the way, since you pointed out that thing about the clown’s scalp, I’ve noticed it and it’s creeping me out. I mentioned it to someone at work today and he agreed that it was really creepy. What would be cool is if he was unmasked and he looked exactly like he does with the fake smile on. Maybe Hannibal got to him. Anyway, good podcast.

By the way, much better than The Strain. The first 2 episodes are better than the entire season of The Strain.

    • HE’S WEARING SOMEONE’S SCALP! – Oh, man, that continues to creep me out. Glad I am not alone. We did get to see behind the mask on episode 2. Yikes, yuck! Let’s put the scary teeth mask back on please…ugh.

Hannibal rocks! The Strain…did not pan out. I wanted it to, but…Twisty and Lecter would eat The Masters feet for breakfast.

He took off the mask? What the heck was I doing at that time? I’ll have to look at it again.

Yeah, I’m not saying that Hannibal isn’t good, just too dark for me. Also, sometimes it seems a bit monotone. The way Will talks and the way Hannibal talks can kind of put you to sleep. It has a very somber tone…but them pretty soon, someone is getting cut up or eaten.

By the way, this is Charles. The inter-webs had assigned me Charles at some point. But my middle name is Carlos. Yes, The Strain was a major disappointment. Not sure if I will return next season. I also saw my first episode of Gotham recently. It looks pretty good. Keep up the good work.

        • Charles (Carlos), Glad to have you back for AHS:FS. 🙂

Yeah, The Strain struggled. I think I will definitely watch the first episode for the second season, but it will difficult to commit for season as a whole. Jury is out.

I am enjoying Gotham, it has its own issues, but the mythology itself supports the effort at this time. And Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot owns the show. Right now, I’m watching The Penguin more than Gotham.

AHS is killing it this year, IMHO. I am so enjoying Twisty and the carny. Hey, and we get to learn the Pepper loves Meat Loaf. That’s gold! 🙂
